Computers have revolutionized our lives, the way we do business, and how we communicate. Think back to all of the jobs and the type of technology that existed 50 years ago, then think about today. There is a great demand for increased technology, but at what expense. The human element needed in the work place is not in that high of demand as it was a few years ago, and that has serious effects on the dismal job market that is in place today.

There are so many updates that take place on computers that it is hard to keep track of them. Some of the newest technology includes the peripherals and accessories that is added onto computers. This is a great advance considering the fact that computers are just now getting to the point where the need for a mouse is absolute thanks to smart phones.

The wave of smart phones has allowed for more technology in the palm of a hand. The result is that consumer expect faster moving, high demand response equipment that laptops and desk tops simply cannot compete with. The disclaimer regarding the touch screen movement is that there are more parts that can break on these types of devices, monitors included.

Apple has the leading edge on touch screens and smart phones, not because of the great technology and fast response times, but because of their battery life in their machines. The iPad has a battery life of 10 hours due to the unique composition that only Apple has. There is so much technology in the workplace that many are finding they have to dual educate in order to qualify for skilled trades or crafts. The Decrease of Employees

Companies are able to downsize because the technology has allowed them to operate with less man power. Computers have expedited the process of running a business to the point that comapnies no longer need 20-30 employees, they now only need five or six. This means that the majority of the work force has the potential of being cut from really any industry. This is a scary reality.

For a troubled economy this is a tough reality as there are many people that needs jobs, but there is no way to bypass that fact that the human element is not as needed as it once was. The way to get around this lackluster workplace epidemic is to join the technology group and become one of the people behind the scenes. Essentially, creating technology to help replace people in the the work environment is promoting jobs. This is just an area that requires additional education and can be confusing or frustrating.

How to Become Tech Savvy

We live in a technological age that threatens to leave those who hesitate behind. Professions are now taking advantage of any technology available that will give businesses an edge over competition. This means that employees and managers are going to be forced to use and understand technology that they otherwise would never have known about.

Become tech savvy by staying in the loop

Stay on top of technological advances and the latest buzz by subscribing to the best blogs on the subject. The more you read, the more language, culture and understanding you may absorb. This small step will at least help you feel like less of an outsider and more like someone “in the know.”

Get hands on

Instead of passing your computer on to someone else when issues arise, do as much as you can yourself. Have technicians walk you through simple procedures or go online to find the answers you need. Use your manual and read through items on the help desk, explore unknown desktop icons and try your hand at figuring things out. Confidence will be built as you successfully find your way around the computer.

Take courses

there are actually courses you can take to use your new cell phone. It maybe counterintuitive but actually take the course. Learning to use the technological devices you already own will make it easier to discuss technology and even assist others. Before you know it friends and family will begin to come to you with all their tech questions.

How to Save Paper While Printing from the Computer?

When computers were introduced to the public during the 1980s many experts and analysts predicted that printing will become obsolete and computers will take over all the work and home related sharing of information. This prediction did not come to pass, on the contrary printing industry exploded and humans are now using 10 times more paper than they did more than 30 years ago.

This means that printing is becoming so widespread that use of paper and ink is reaching unsustainable proportions threatening large scale deforestation and soil erosion while creating enormous quantities of paper industry related pollution and sewage disposal problems inside water bodies such as rivers, lakes and continental shelves.

It is impossible to ban printing immediately around the world to clean up the environment, but there are several measures which can be taken to ensure printing is done efficiently and paper is utilized in as few quantities as possible.

The first thing which comes to mind is setting the printer commands to default double sided copying, printing, faxing and scanning so that paper usage is literally cut in half. Secondly, using the Office productivity suite to edit documents to minimize the unprinted area as much as possible. The font of the printed material can be chosen so that more words and paragraphs can be fitted in one page.

Office workers should make sure that only those documents are printed which are absolutely needed. All meetings, planning and discussion should be covered on computers themselves and files should be shared thorugh e-mail or an online file sharing system accessible to the colleagues.

Printing indiscriminately in the office can also increase the overhead costs and put pressure on the operating costs of any business.

Top 4 Internet Scams to Look Out For

The Internet is the place where most people look to first for information and bargains. While you’ll definitely learn a few things and save a few pennies, care must be taken. Unscrupulous scammers are constantly looking for new ways to separate you from your hard-earned money without providing much, or anything, in return. To protect your ego, and your wallet, look out for these popular scams while you’re online:

1. You’ve Won a Million Dollars, but First…

In advance-fee scams, you must first pay a small amount before you can receive something desirable. In most cases, it is a substantial amount of money. The usual advance-fee scam scenario involves an email that states you have won an off-shore lottery or inherited a vast sum of money from an unknown relative, but you must pay the taxes or a transfer fee before the sum can be forwarded to your account. If you fall for this scam, you could lose more than the fee. Some victims have provided bank account information and have lost their entire life savings.

2. I Accidentally Overpaid, Could You…?

The checks-for-overpayment scam is a reversal of the advance-fee scam. If you post an item for sale or rent online, you may find an eager customer who wants to send you a check for more than the full-amount. This is a sure sign that they are trying to scam you. The request will be to accept the full amount and return the difference after keeping out a little extra for your trouble. Of course, this doesn’t make much sense, but the scammers are counting on their victim’s desperation for quick money. If you fall for this scam, the check will bounce long after you’ve refunded the extra cash. You’ll be out the amount you sent the scammer and the bounced check fee.

3. Don’t Waste Four Years, Get a Diploma in No Time!

Diploma mills issue fake credentials from apparently legitimate colleges with little or no training to the student. The mill may even have a professional-looking website and run online ads that appear above-board. In return for your payment, you may even receive some educational materials. However, the diploma you receive will be useless. While there are legitimate online degree programs, students must research each institution to make sure that it is accredited by a recognized accrediting body. Be careful; most diploma mills also make up their own credentials.

4. Trust Us Because You Know Us

If you receive an unsolicited email from the federal government or your bank, you can bet it’s a phishing scam. Financial institutions and government agencies would never ask for your personal information. If you decide to contact your bank or the IRS to find out whether the communication is legitimate, don’t use the link or phone number included on the email. Look it up yourself!

Of course, this is just the tip of the scam iceberg! Whenever you see an e-mail from someone that you don’t know, or an online offer that sounds too good to be true, the safest course is to completely ignore the whole thing.
