In mid 2005 several wall street analysts had predicted that OLED technology would become really widespread over a period of 5 years and would become the dominant technology by 2013 at the latest but LED technology has continued to evolve so that bright high contrast displays are still dominating the market share in laptops, televisions and other electronic items.

Some people say it’s the entire Internet and anything that you do on it, which could be done on your own computer or servers. Others think that cloud computing is much more specific to things like business applications, and that personal use online doesn’t really count for much. Cellular phones started with tiny black and white screens more than two decades ago, but ever since the introduction of smartphones by RIM, Nokia, Apple and others, there has been a spirited debate about what is the appropriate screen size and what majority of phones will go after as the majic figure to drive their sales in different parts of the world.

This kind of tumultuous development took place in the laptop world for more than 10 years before wide screen displays were introduced in the market and in time laptop makers realized that 15-15.5 inches was the sweet spot where more than 55-60% of the global laptop sales were occurring.

In the same manner, smartphones are going through an evolution in terms of how thin, weighty, and large the smartphone screen might be suitable and attractive for reaching that sweet spot in global sales hierarchy. Smartphones today range from anywhere between 3 inches to 4.5 inches and newer models are coming out everyday which are pushing the envelope. Depending upon the aspect ratio, some smartphone makers are selling more squarish looking smartphones with generous screen sizes at least from the smartphone perspective, whereas others are focusing on the long, lean and slim factor.

Samsung for instance has introduced some really sleek looking smartphones with windows mobile software which have large but not lean looking screen. This generous 4.5 inch screen size makes even online news articles, stories, e-mails and attachments more readable, causing less strain to the eyes.

On the other hand Apple is pushing its long and sleek line of iPhones with smaller than 4 inch screens and long aspect ratio so that the screen area is meager but the overall phone design looks sleek and stylish when held in hand, especially by women. It is difficult to say where the sweet spot will be, but it will definitely fal between 4-5 inches.

The internet revolution brought enormous success to technology and engineering companies around theworld. From 1993 to 2005 technology development and mass appeal of high speed internet and various communication technologies such as video conferencing, voice over internet, online marketing and sales saw a quantum leap. Both hardware and software developers fostered creativity and millions of jobs were created around the world.

The internet and communications sector is now mature in almost the entire Western World, large parts of East Asia and will reach maturity in South Asia in next 10-15 years as several hundred million people move out of poverty to lower middle class status.

However the job situation in America is grim. The official jobless rate in America is 9.9% and the unofficial real unemployment counting those who have given up looking for jobs is more than 22% according to many experts and think tanks.

Over the last 5 years the job losses have been in the millions whereas new hires in the technology sector in giant internet companies such as google and Facebook have been in the thousands, more than a thousand fold difference. A new plan by Federal government will purportedly spend billions of dollars on adding new high speed broadband across the length and breadth of the country and it is debatable if these new spending measures will create permanent jobs.

One way to raise hiring in America is if rules and regulations are simplified and tax structure is lowered for production of computer and technology equipment and is balanced by taxes on consumption. Higher production of computer parts and equipment will create hundreds of thousands of jobs in the manufacturing and this might create more natural instead of artificial demand for broadband usage and internet portals like google and Facebook.

A combination of simplified tax structure and regulatory procedures which incentivize production in America will lay the foundation for further growth at Google and Facebook, not the other way around.

For last several years Amazon’s kindle has been in the lead in introducing black and white E-readers to the market and has successfully sold tens of millions Kindles to its customers. Other manufacturers such as Sony, Barnes and Noble have introduced their own versions and captured some share of the market to stay in the game.

However no Chinese brand with a Made in China product has yet waded successfully into the US market but that might be changing in near future. The Chinese designed Hanvon E-Reader licenses E-Ink technology from the same company that Amazon uses to build its Kindle, but it has gone one step further in introducing the first all color version of an E-Reader in the market.

According to many marketing intelligence organizations, the Chinese E-Reader market could be anywhere from 100 million to 400 million and since the Chinese middle-class is still rapidly expanding, it provides exciting opportunities for Chinese manufacturers such as Hanvon to first introduce their color E-Reader in the domestic Chinese market, gauge the reception and then flood it into the US market to snatch away market share from Amazon and other vendors.

As the globalization of technology continues and more Chinese E-reader manufacturers make a direct entry into the US market, they can utilize their economies of scale, access to advanced technology, and cheap labor to completely take over the market share from Amazon and other manufacturers and become successful.

For one thing, there are all kinds of different wireless protocols and types of service.  WiMAX is just a part of a fairly large, extremely complicated crowd.  Becoming dominant over such a large field is going to be something of a challenge.  For another thing, WiMAX is a technology that is extremely dependent on where you are.  The fact of the matter is, if you are more than 50 kilometers away from the nearest station, you are not going to get very much out of it.  Of course, if you are less tha none kilometer away, it is going to absolutely rock.  But that is not the worst of the connection issues.

With a classic, unobtrusive frame, the digital picture frame can look much like a standard picture frame, just with changing images.

Most digital picture frames have settings that allow users to alter the speed at which the pictures are rotated. This is much like the way that desktop backgrounds on computer screens can change at different intervals.

The Golden Gate is the second largest suspension bridge in the United States and its beautiful architectural style has been honored in films and in books. In fact, it was ranked fifth on the List of America’s Favorite Architecture by the American Institute of Architects.
Yet for all of the accolades and tributes to its beauty, getting the bridge built was a trying process among government officials, engineers and architects and without their persistence, we wouldn’t have the glorious bridge we travel across, photograph and marvel at today.

Before the bridge, travel to and from San Francisco was done only by ferry, and because the city didn’t have a permanent link with surrounding towns its economy suffered and its growth rate was well below the national average. Many residents wanted to provide a lifeline for travel and commerce and discussed building a bridge in the early 1900s with little results.

Many felt that the bridge itself would be an obstacle to ships in transit; others felt the swirling tides and current of bay, coupled with the ferocious winds and blinding fogs, would prevent construction from even occurring.

A formal proposal was submitted by an engineering student in 1916 and after several years of bouts with engeeiners, budgets and builders,construction began. Joseph Strauss served as the chief engineer in charge of the overall design and construction of the bridge, followed by Charles Alton Ellis. The bridge’s Art Deco theme, bridge towers and lighting scheme were designed by Irving Morrow.

It’s been said that the bridge’s orange color was a result of a sealant applied to the bridge, however there are also tales that San Francisco locals urged the bridge be painted that color to make the bridge vibrant and distinct.
